Services

Here are some general principles that I follow:Accuracy
Accurately convey the meaning of the original text/speech including the tone of voice
Completeness
Everything must be translated with some exception when some words or phrases could be offensive or misinterpreted in the target language
Cultural sensitivity
The interpreter or translator should be aware of the cultural differences between the source and target cultures and should bridge that gap as much as one could
Confidentiality
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all project-related information, discussions, and documents.
In addition to these general principles, I also use a variety of specific techniques and methods to achieve these goals.
Interpretation
For all modes of interpretation, the preparation process is half the work. The interpreter will consider the linguistic dimension of each assignment as the first step by creating a glossary, extract terminology from provided materials and memorizing them. A proper understanding of key terms and concepts are equally essential so that leads to the next step of doing research to acquire necessary foundational knowledge of related topics. Last but not least is the non-linguistic reality of each assignment. The interpreter has to answer basic questions such as: Who is doing What with Whom and Why? From there, a concrete communication situation could be visualized.
I also use Computer-Assisted Interpreting (CAI) tools such as InterpretBank and Microsoft Onenote for terminology and knowledge management.Translation
The workflow for a translation project shares the research component with an interpretation project. However, the process of finding the corresponding words and phrases in the target language that are accurate, idiomatic, and natural-sounding is often laborious. Once the translation is complete, it will be edited and proofread by the translator. This step is important to ensure that the translation is free of errors and that it meets the client's requirements.

About

I believe that an interpreter and translator should stand out by:Being a contributor: propose solutions for arising problems instead of complaining about themBeing patient: with others and with myselfBeing easy to work with: show up on time, communicate efficiently, make the lives of my clients and colleagues easier, not harder
